The guys at Proptopia have created a unique movie accurate Proton Pack specially for buster Ernie Hudson. He came down to their workshop to pick it up. He hung out, had some lunch and told stories of his time as a Ghostbuster.

Original Ghostbusters Ectomobile Restored!
20 04 2008The Ectomobile (ECTO-1) from the movie Ghostbusters was falling apart. Years of damage, rain, rust and tourists had taken it’s toll on the car. This is how it looked a few years back at the Sony Backlot:
More photos – http://www.gbfans.com/equipment/reference/18/
Last year both the ECTO-1 and ECTO-1A were sent to an auto-restoration company, pulled apart and restored from the ground up:

The restoration is now complete! The car looks even better than it did back in the 1980’s:

And finally here is a video of the car in action:

Happy Birthday TCP/IP!
1 01 20081st January, 1983
A full switchover to TCP/IP was performed on the ARPANET
Google celebrates this milestone with a new logo today!

One of the more interesting challenges was the transition of the ARPANET host protocol from NCP to TCP/IP as of January 1, 1983. This was a “flag-day” style transition, requiring all hosts to convert simultaneously or be left having to communicate via rather ad-hoc mechanisms. This transition was carefully planned within the community over several years before it actually took place and went surprisingly smoothly (but resulted in a distribution of buttons saying “I survived the TCP/IP transition”).

Latest Additions to CD/DVD Collection
27 11 2007Well, I’ve been ordering a few things from Amazon lately, and surprising myself at the entertainment value I’m getting from everything!
Firstly I ordered Stargate SG-1, the complete series. Yes, that’s all 10 seasons with 4 bonus discs.
It’s FANTASTIC! The box even has a 3D stargate on the side. The discs themselves are identical to the previous boxed sets, but this one has the extra discs of special features. I’ve been slowly working through series 1,2 and 3, I’d almost forgotten how brilliant the show is. It makes much more sense when you watch it all in a short amount of time, instead of spreading 10 seasons out over 10 years. The bonus features are basically the documentaries that were cut out of previous discs, or only aired on TV (ie Behind the scenes of the 200th episode).
My next DVD will be Futurama – Bender’s Big Score, which I am very excited about!
I also managed to get George Clinton – The Mothership Connection on DVD. Although the video quality is fairly poor, the audio sounds great for something that old. It really captures how brilliant Parliament/Funkadelic were, and how lavish their stage shows were.
As far as CD’s, I have an album “Outta Here” by a band called “Lettuce”. Amazon has been recommending that I buy this for about 3 years, because it matches my interests. I can see that Amazon was right, it’s the funkiest thing I’ve heard in months! I also have “Live in Tokyo”, also by Lettuce. This one has very unusual packaging, it’s apparently biodegradable. It was also one of the easiest CD’s to open I’ve ever bought, it’s basically in this plastic bag thing sealed by 2 stickers. The plastic is biodegradable too!
Also got “David Benoit – Right Here, Right Now” and “Euge Groove – Just Feels Right”, so plenty of smooth jazz to keep me going while I’m working at night.
This weekend is the highlight of my year, Royal Crown Revue are playing in Adelaide! Saw them 2 years ago, and they were unbelievably good, so I’m very excited about Saturday night. They have a new album apparently too.
Anyway, almost time to catch the buses to work, starting at 12:15pm, finish at 8:30. I might go around to Hindley afterwards and listen to some jazz at the Worldsend, I have tomorrow off so it won’t matter if I stay out late tonight.

I’m such an idiot
9 11 2007I was trying to configure my server with htaccess to force the “www”. Now, I know there’s a whole cult out there for “No WWW”, but I’m happy to leave it there, that’s where my links go to and it’s not a big deal to me.
So anyway, I had my htaccess file configured like so:
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.%{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [R=301,L]
Simple enough, right?
But it was doing some strange things. When you go to:
http://www.mysite.com/forum
you get redirected to:
http://www.mysite.com/forum/
(Adds trailing slash)
When you go to:
http://mysite.com/forum/
you get redirected to:
http://www.mysite.com/forum/
(Adds www)
BUT! When you go to:
http://mysite.com/forum
you get redirected to:
http://www.mysite.com/forum//home/mysite/www/forum/
(The local path added to the end)
Bizarre…I couldn’t work out what was happening! I tried about 15 different pieces of htaccess code and none fixed the problem.
Then I worked it out. I had another .htaccess file in my /forum/ folder, which was redirecting incorrectly. I deleted the file and it fixed the problem.
What a waste of 30 minutes!

Hacking The IT Crowd Series 2 DVD – Part 2
29 10 2007I think I may be onto something big here!
I recently came across the website http://www.ilovewillies.com
This site is owned by FremantleMedia and contains some great tips for the Easter Eggs.
I have now managed to extract some very useful information from the file in Episode 1. It is a JPEG containing EXIF data, with some Geolocation coordinates:
File: - G:\Copy of test.jpgImageDescription - OL]MPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Make - OLYIPUS L€TåCAL CO.,LTD Model - Þ OL]MP Orientation - XResolution - 144 YResolution - 144 ResolutionUnit - Inch Software - 42-0120 DateTime - 2007:05:04 23:15:35 YCbCrPositioning - Co-Sited ExifOffset - 296 ExposureTime - 1/30 seconds FNumber - 2.00 ExposureProgram - Normal program ISOSpeedRatings - 80 ExifVersion - 0210 DateTimeOriginal - 2007:05:04 23:15:35 DateTimeDigitized - 2007Ò0%:0 23:1:3 ComponentsConfiguration - YCbCr ExposureBiasValue - 0.00 MaxApertureValue - F 2.04 MeteringMode - Multi-segment Flash - Fired FocalLength - 10.00 mm UserComment - You'vu found an Easter Egg! FlashPixVersion - 0100 ColorSpace - Uncalibrated ExifImageWidth - 1024 ExifImageHeight - 768 InteroperabilityOffset - 670 FileSource - DSC - Digital still camera GPS information: - GPSLatitudeRef - N GPSLatitude - 51 32 56 GPSLongitudeRef - W GPSLongitude - 0 32 4
Now what are these coordinates?
51 32 56 N 0 32 4 W
Well it just happens to be:
Pinewood Studios!!!
The comment in the file is “You Found an Easter Egg“
I am still working on decrypting the rest of the JPEG, it’s slow but I’m getting there.
Update: October 31st
I now know that the JPEG is a photo of Maurice Moss standing in the doorway of the basement holding something…
I have another 20 or so lines to decipher before I can unscramble what he is holding in his hand, although I do have a suspicion I already know what it is!
Update: November 9th
I have better things to do than try to finish decoding these subtitles, I seriously can’t be bothered anymore, and finally there are other people out there who have begun working on the project.
Here’s the photo I decoded so far: Maurice Moss
It’s Moss, and he seems to be holding 2 Easter Eggs.
Update: November 9th (again)
Yes I know the photo is blurry and pixelated. I only decoded part of it, hence why I said “here’s the photo I decoded so far”. The photo is only partially decoded, and I don’t have a more clear version for you. The photo, when you click the link, is pixelated, and I don’t have a finished copy of it for you. Please don’t ask me for a more clear version, because I only partially decoded the image above and that’s the most I’m going to be doing on it. It’s enough so that you can see what it is.
To recap: That’s the image, yes it’s blurry, no I can’t fix it.
Thankyou.
